Does this trade make sense for Memphis Grizzlies?
Based on first glance, you may ask why the Memphis Grizzlies would look to flip their roster around near the start of the new season, especially since they improved a lot last season, but this is an excellent deal for Memphis.
Tyus Jones is not really a valuable asset they could get anything out of, and neither is Jarrett Culver right now, who they acquired recently from the Timberwolves.
They cannot make this trade involving Culver until October 17 at the earliest since he was just traded, but this deal makes sense for the Grizzlies, even if they have to trade Kyle Anderson. Anderson is nothing more than a role player anyways, and Buddy Hield can help Memphis in one area they have been weak in — perimeter shooting.
Buddy Hield shot 39.1% from three-point range, compared to the 35.6% from deep the Grizzlies shot as a team last season, which ranked them 20th in the league. Hield has shot 40.6% from three-point range for his career, which is why he would be a smart addition on the wing for Memphis.

The three main contributors on this roster right now are Ja Morant, Dillon Brooks, and Jaren Jackson Jr., and the Grizzlies will be searching for production from others. Desmond Bane, Ziaire Williams, Brandon Clarke, and Steven Adams are all question marks in production on offense, but the Grizzlies know what they would be getting with Buddy Hield.
Adding that key secondary shooter like Hield on the wing could be highly advantageous to the Grizzlies and set them up for even more success during the 2021-22 season than they had last year.

As time goes on, this Memphis team will get better and better, but they have to be willing to make moves to surround Morant with the talent he needs. This is one of those moves, and bringing in Buddy Hield would definitely pay off for the Grizzlies.
