Sacramento Kings Receive: F Kristaps Porzingis, G Tyrell Terry, DAL 2024 1st Round Pick (Swap, More Favorable to SAC)
Dallas Mavericks Receive: G/F Buddy Hield, F Marvin Bagley III, SAC 2023 1st Round Pick (Lottery-Protected), POR 2024 2nd Round Pick (via SAC), POR 2025 2nd Round Pick (via SAC)

Seeing as there have been minimal offers for Kristaps Porzingis all offseason long and the Dallas Mavericks really have not engaged in trade talks with teams surrounding him, it seems likely that they will be keeping him to begin the 2021-22 season, but this does not mean that they are not still interested in trading him.

Porzingis was an All-Star when he was with the Knicks during the 2017-18 season, but since coming to Dallas and suffering multiple knee injuries, he has not been the same player. His stats make everything seem normal, as he has averaged 20.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and has shot 36.2% from deep since coming to the Mavericks, but Porzingis has really struggled in big games.

This past season in the playoffs, Porzingis only averaged 13.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and shot just 29.6% from the three-point range.

Being 7’3”, he should be the best interior player on the court, but Kristaps Porzingis seems to play very passive at times and, instead of being a big guy, plays like a 5’10” guard out on the perimeter. This has been the main cause for concern on the part of the Dallas Mavericks, which is why they could consider trading Porzingis if he continues to struggle during the 2021-22 season.

The Sacramento Kings could actually be interested in him not only because they are willing to move both Buddy Hield and Marvin Bagley III, but because they could use another key player not just to pair with De’Aaron Fox but Richaun Holmes in the frontcourt.

Adding Porzingis to this Kings team gives them a starting unit of De’Aaron Fox, Tyrese Haliburton, Harrison Barnes, Kristpas Porzingis, and Richaun Holmes, which really is not that bad of a team.

As for the Mavericks, they really did not make any big offseason moves this summer to better themselves, which is why adding Hield and Bagley could immediately elevate them to being a top-tier team in the Western Conference.

Hield can provide Dallas with the shooting they need out on the perimeter, and Bagley would be another great option for them to add to their frontcourt, which is full of guys who really are inconsistent. Dwight Powell is a player that could be moved by midseason, and Willie Cauley-Stein and Moses Brown are nothing more than centers who will get sporadic minutes.

The Dallas Mavericks really do not have a true power-forward, which is why Bagley could be useful for them to add. It may seem like the Sacramento Kings are giving up a lot of value for Kristaps Porzingis, but this trade has a chance to be really effective for both teams involved.
