Utah Jazz Receive: C Marc Gasol
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: OKC/HOU/IND/MIA 2027 Second-Round Pick (Least Favorable to UTA rerouted to LAL)
There isn’t much to break down in this hypothetical deal between the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers. This essentially equates to a salary dump for the Lakers, who are sending Marc Gasol to the Jazz for a future second-round pick.
It will be a long time until that pick is conveyed to the Lakers, and it would not be shocking to see it traded again in the coming years. For Los Angeles, that is alright, as this deal is made to open up a roster spot essentially.
If they sign DeAndre Jordan once he clears waivers, they may want to open up another roster spot, and trading Gasol would be the easiest way to accomplish that. Gasol appeared in 52 games for the Lakers last season, making 42 starts.
While he is far from the player he once was, Gasol is still serviceable. He can knock down 3-pointers at a solid clip, making 41 percent of his attempts last season. His rim protection is still quality as he averaged 1.1 blocks per game.

Those are things the Lakers could certainly still use in their rotation. But, they may have had some plans changed between now and when Gasol originally made his announcement a few weeks ago.
If that is the case, the Jazz would be more than happy to take him on. Let’s take a look at this deal from their perspective.
