Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: G CJ McCollum, POR 2022 2nd Round Pick, ATL 2024 2nd Round Pick
Portland Trail Blazers Receive: F Kevin Love, G Collin Sexton, CLE 2023 1st Round Pick (Top-5 Protected), CLE 2024 1st Round Pick (Swap, More Favorable to POR)

The Cleveland Cavaliers want to move Kevin Love and while they would likely be open to a buyout with their veteran forward, both he and his agent do not want to negotiate a buyout with the Cavs.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported over the weekend that Love and his agent, Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports, have no interest in negotiating a buyout with the Cavaliers on the two years and $60.2M left on his contract.

As a result, the only way the Cavaliers could wind up moving Love is if they trade him, but virtually no teams in the league are going to want to take on his mega-contract. Seeing as he is from the Portland area, the Trail Blazers are definitely a team that Kevin Love could be interested in going to and they could actually show interest in him since they could use another frontcourt option like him.

Plus, the Trail Blazers would be getting a young, highly talented guard in Collin Sexton to replace CJ McCollum in their rotations. Drafted 8th overall in 2018, Sexton has improved every single season he has been in the league, and this past season, he was the Cavaliers best offensive talent, averaging 24.3 points, 4.4 assists, and shooting 47.5% from the floor, 37.1% from three-point range.

Adding a young talent from the Cavaliers to replace McCollum, a key veteran frontcourt option and some draft capital are definitely advantageous to the Portland Trail Blazers, especially if they are only going to be giving up CJ McCollum and some second-round picks, which bring little value to a team like the Blazers.

The clock is ticking for Damian Lillard and this season could be the last that the Trail Blazers have to prove their worth to the All-Star guard, which is why they will likely have to move CJ McCollum at some point. This is where the Cavaliers could capitalize.

Kevin Love, Collin Sexton, and some first-round draft picks over the next couple of seasons are definitely an intriguing trade package from the Cavaliers to not only keep the Trail Blazers afloat right now but continue building a strong team for the future.
