3 Trade Scenarios Involving CJ McCollum For Trail Blazers To Consider

With Damian Lillard’s future very much unknown at this point, the Portland Trail Blazers not only need to be focused on winning, but they still need to make some key changes to their roster. Lillard and CJ McCollum have been a great backcourt pairing for a variety of NBA seasons now, but this team is still not close to being a contending team in the Western Conference.

If Portland is going to prove to their MVP candidate that they can contend and still win games at a high level, then parting ways with McCollum may be necessary, especially since he is their only other valuable asset.

CJ McCollum has been with the Trail Blazers for eight seasons now and has averaged 18.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and has shot 39.8% from three-point range over the course of his career.

The Blazers definitely do not want to move McCollum, especially before the season begins, but if they are not where they want to be through the first month or two of the 2021-22 season, then moving on from their borderline All-Star shooting guard could be a move Neil Olshey and Portland’s front-office looks to make.

There have been some NBA trade rumors this offseason about Portland possibly looking to move CJ McCollum for Ben Simmons, but the 76ers have been unwilling to talk more about this potential swap, so this may not seem like a real possibility to happen. Could the Blazers look to move McCollum for other value in order to get Damian Lillard the help he needs?

Let’s take a look at three trade packages that Portland could consider for CJ McCollum at some point during the 2021-22 season given his value right now league-wide.
