Evan Mobley makes an immediate difference for the Cavaliers defensively
In any other draft class not having Cade Cunningham and Jalen Green, Evan Mobley would have been the undisputed No. 1 overall pick, which is why the Cleveland Cavaliers are lucky to have drafted him third overall this year. The former USC big man stands 7-feet tall with a 7’4” wingspan, making him a menace on the court.
Offensively, he will give the Cavs another low-post threat and a big man who can spread the floor alongside Jarrett Allen, but most importantly, he is going to make them 10x better defensively with Allen as his partner in the frontcourt. We all know what Jarrett Allen can do, averaging 1.4 blocks per game last season, but Mobley has the potential to be an even better rim protector.
Given his length and athleticism, it is very difficult to score over Evan Mobley and he put his skills on full display out in Las Vegas during Summer League. Aside from averaging 11.3 points and 7.7 rebounds, Mobley also averaged 1.7 blocks per game including an opening game in which he had 3 blocks and a steal against the Houston Rockets.
In time, Evan Mobley has a chance to grow into an all-around offensive juggernaut and could potentially grow into a Chris Bosh-like player, but defensively, he is going to make his presence felt immediately.

Cleveland may have ranked 25th in Defensive Rating last season and just 20th in blocked shots, but they have a chance to springboard up both of these rankings and be a strong defensive team during the 2021-22 season with the addition of the young big man.
