Detroit Pistons Receive: F Harrison Barnes, G Jahmi’us Ramsey, 2022 First-Round Pick, 2022 Second-Round Pick (via ATL)

This is an NBA trade scenario that works out well for both teams involved. The Sacramento Kings and Detroit Pistons would both be happy with the outcome here.

The Kings land the centerpiece of this deal in Jerami Grant. Grant bet on himself and the Pistons gave him a chance in free agency last offseason and it went about as well as it could have. Detroit would have liked to win more, but Grant proved he can be the focal point of an offensive attack.

To obtain him, the price is relatively steep. The only real wing they had on their roster, Harrison Barnes, is included in the deal. He is their best trade chip and instead of turning him into future draft picks, use him to land a player that can help win now in Grant.

Jahmi’us Ramsey was a second-round pick of the Kings in 2020 out of Texas Tech and will head to a crowded, revamped backcourt in Detroit.

The draft picks are of excellent value. The Kings could have landed a first-round pick for Barnes were he to be put on the trade block alone. Instead, the Pistons land one along with him in exchange for Grant.

There is a chance that pick lands in the lottery unless Sacramento can surprise some people and sneak into the postseason. The 2022 second-round pick is an added sweetener to the deal.

Let’s take a look at how this trade makes sense for both sides, starting with the Kings.
