Minnesota Timberwolves

Along with the Boston Celtics being a team that pursued Larry Nance Jr. last season, Fedor also reported that the Minnesota Timberwolves were a team “aggressively” trying to acquire Nance Jr. from the Cavaliers. Nothing ever happened in trade talks with the Cavs for him, but the Timberwolves still have a need for a power-forward like Nance Jr. and they still have some roster spots to sort out. 

Bringing back Jarred Vanderbilt could be something Minnesota looks to do in the near future and they still have interest in Chicago’s restricted free agent Lauri Markkanen as well, but they could possibly save themselves some money by targeting Larry Nance Jr. again. 

The only question facing the Timberwolves though is what would they give up to acquire him? Outside of Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell and Anthony Edwards, the Timberwolves do not have many valuable assets, but the Cavaliers could be interested in a player like Malik Beasley, who is rumored to be available. 

There are some off-the-court issues with Beasley that he did settle this offseason, but on the court last year, he was definitely a valuable offensive threat. The 24-year-old wing averaged 19.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and shot 39.9% from three-point range in 37 games, as his season was cut short due to injuries.

The Timberwolves also have guys like Josh Okogie, Jaden McDaniels and Jaylen Nowell who could also peak the interest of the Cavaliers, but Beasley would likely be one of the few guys they would be interested in trading for. Time will tell if the Timberwolves will continue their pursuit of Larry Nance Jr., but in the end, the Cavs still may not be willing to budge on trade talks involving him.
