Rajon Rondo – Memphis Grizzlies – 2021-22 Salary: $7.5M (not including incentives)
Finding a secondary ball-handler was one of the main goals of the Mavericks this offseason, yet they have not added another point guard. They still have Jalen Brunson, who is a young guard on the rise off-the-bench, but they really do not have another true ball-handler and facilitator outside of Luka Doncic.
The Memphis Grizzlies recently acquired Rajon Rondo from the Los Angeles Clippers, who acquired him from the Atlanta Hawks at this past year’s NBA trade deadline, but the Grizzlies have no intentions of keeping him long-term. Seeing as they now have 18 players under-contract for next season, Memphis is going to be looking to move some contracts/salaries, which is why the Dallas Mavericks could potentially get Rondo at a low price.
He is owed $7.5M during the 2021-22 season, but Rondo is exactly the kind of secondary ball-handler and experienced veteran the Mavericks need in their backcourt. Not only has Rondo always been known to be a terrific passer and facilitator, but he is a 2x NBA champion, which could really help Luka Doncic.
As time goes on, Doncic is going to continue to become the face of the league, but being able to learn from guys like Rondo could really go a long way in helping him. Rajon Rondo has been around the block for years now and is also a 4x All-Star point guard, so he could definitely help Luka Doncic polish parts of his game as a facilitator and passer.

Rajon Rondo would be a really strong addition for the Mavericks and definitely help aid their backcourt depth and overall play. Dallas needs a reliable veteran player and they would get that if they were to acquire Rondo from the Grizzlies.
