Eric Gordon – Houston Rockets
With them building a new young core in Houston, the Rockets have been shopping some of their veteran players, including Eric Gordon. They were close to getting a deal involving him going to the Indiana Pacers close to this year’s draft, but trade talks never advanced.
This however has not changed the Rockets stance on wanting to dump their veteran players for more young talent and draft picks. During the offseason, it was believed that a team could get Gordon for a first-round draft pick, but now, they may be able to get him for two second-round picks since the Rockets do want to dump his salary.
The veteran wing is owed $58.7M over the next three seasons with the final year of his contract being non-guaranteed. He may be 32-years-old now and not the same player he was earlier in his career, but Eric Gordon is still definitely a guy who can contribute at a high-level for a team’s second-unit.
Injuries have cut his last two seasons short, but since joining the Rockets ahead of the 2016-17 season, Eric Gordon has averaged 16.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and has shot 35.5% from deep. Roughly $20M is a lot to ask a team to take on for a guy like Gordon, but he is definitely an impactful player that teams can get right now for a cheap price.

He may begin the season in a Rockets jersey, but expect to see Eric Gordon on the move at some point during the 2021-22 season. If he is not traded in the first month of the season, it is very likely that a playoff contender will look to acquire him at the trade deadline.
