How Do The Bulls Make The Pieces Fit?

The Chicago Bulls were one of the most aggressive teams in upgrading their roster this offseason, and the overhaul began at the NBA trade deadline. Chicago acquired Nikola Vucevic at the deadline from the Orlando Magic, which started their overhaul.

With Vucevic and Zach LaVine on the roster, they upgraded the roster around them with Lonzo Ball, who was acquired via sign-and-trade from the New Orleans Pelicans, at point guard. DeMar DeRozan was acquired in a sign-and-trade with the San Antonio Spurs and Alex Caruso was signed away from the Los Angeles Lakers.

Ball was a logical fit as a playmaking, defensive upgrade in the backcourt. His improvement as a 3-point shooter will also play well in the starting give. Caruso has shown defensive chops and the ability to shoot from distance as well as a combo guard.

But, DeRozan’s fit is a little tougher to figure out. He won’t have the ball in his hands as much as he did in San Antonio, so he won’t be initiating offense and setting the table as frequently. He is not a good 3-point shooter, so using him at the 3 to space the court is a no-go as well.
