The Sacramento Kings are in the midst of one of the worst playoff droughts in NBA history. They have not made the postseason since 2006, making it 15 consecutive seasons without a playoff berth. That has tied the NBA record and is something the Kings want to avoid having solely.
Competing for a playoff spot in the Western Conference has proven difficult as there are so many good teams. But, Sacramento has made some strides to becoming a better team.
They have what looks like an excellent foundation in the backcourt led by De’Aaron Fox. They selected Tyrese Haliburton in the 2020 NBA Draft and Davion Mitchell in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft, giving them a three-headed attack in the backcourt.
Haliburton and Mitchell present a change in thinking for the Kings, as they are committing to high-character, defensive-minded, versatile guards. They need changes, as the Kings had the worst defensive rating in the history of the NBA in the 2020-21 season.

Hield has been on the trade block for a while now. He believed he was heading to the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason, as the framework of a deal was in place but Los Angeles pivoted at the last minute.

Here is what a trade between the Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans could look like.
