G Skylar Mays – Atlanta Hawks Summer League
The Atlanta Hawks drafted Skylar Mays 50th overall in 2020 and signed him to a two-way contract last season. He made 33 appearances with the Hawks last year and Mays’ best game last year came against the San Antonio Spurs in February, when he scored 20 points on 7-10 shooting, 4-5 3PT.
This offseason, Atlanta offered Skylar Mays a qualifying offer for another two-way contract, but he has yet to accept this deal as he looks to potentially earn a full-time contract.
After signing second-round pick Sharife Cooper to a two-way contract this offseason and having 14 guys on their roster with one roster spot open, the Hawks could very much look to sign Mays to a one/two-year deal for their final roster spot and he has fully earned this after his showing in Summer League.
Atlanta plays one more game tomorrow, but through four Summer League games with the Hawks, Skylar Mays has averaged 18.8 points, 3.8 assists and has shot 46.3% from the floor. Being a tough defender and an above-sized point guard (6’4”) is advantageous to Skylar Mays’ chances of making an NBA roster and he really is a consistent player.

You know what to expect from a guy like Skylar Mays and the fact that he can go on scoring flurries here and there is definitely a plus. Potential-wise, Mays will likely only work his way up to being a rotational guy in the NBA, but he is definitely a guy teams should be willing to add to their roster because he is a terrific “practice guy.”
The end-of-the-bench guys in the NBA are always utilized in practices as “scout team” players and Mays is definitely a guy who other players respect. He is a high-level guard who can get things done on both ends of the floor, which is why Skylar Mays has played his way into at least another two-way contract in this league.
