Does this trade make sense for the Indiana Pacers?
Much like the New York Knicks trading “for” Myles Turner, there is no need for the Pacers to trade “away” Myles Turner. Unless they were going to include him in a trade package to pick up another high-level talent, there really is no need for the Pacers to get rid of Turner.
He is their anchor on the defensive-end of the court, leading the league in blocks per game during the 2018-19 and 2020-21 seasons, but he also is a great player for them in pick-and-roll sets when Domantas Sabonis is also on the court next to him. When fully healthy, a lot of the attention of the Pacers’ opponents goes on guys like Sabonis, Brogdon and Warren, allowing Turner to do what he does best on offense by stepping out on the perimeter to knock down shots.
Replacing Myles Turner with Mitchell Robinson gives the Pacers more of a paint presence on offense, as well as allows rookie Isaiah Jackson to potentially see more minutes, and they would also be adding some much needed draft capital, but again, the Pacers are in a solid position as a franchise right now.
Last season was definitely a disappointment for Indiana, but that was a “fluke” season given all the health protocols and the injuries they faced. Assuming they can be healthy to begin the season this year, the Pacers actually have a chance to be a real playoff team and not have to earn their spot through the play-in tournament.

Trading Myles Turner is definitely something that will be in-play at the NBA trade deadline this upcoming season and if they keep him through then, be a discussion in rumors throughout the 2022 NBA offseason, but as of right now, the Pacers should have no intentions of trading Myles Turner.
