3. Dallas Mavericks

Could Dennis Smith Jr. return to where it all began in his NBA career? He lasted only a season and a half with the Mavericks before they traded him to the New York Knicks, but if he had his way, he would play for the organization once again.

Smith is definitely interested in a return to the Mavericks, but is the feeling mutual? They currently have 15 players under contract, but Smith could fit the bill of what they have been on the look for this offseason.

Dallas has tried to find a secondary ball-handler for Luka Doncic but has been unable to lock one down. They were going to make a run at Kyle Lowry and Spencer Dinwiddie, but neither player seriously considered the Mavericks as a landing spot in free agency.

Smith would be a good fallback option for Dallas. He is familiar with the organization and has shown some improvements, especially on the defensive end, since he was traded away in 2018.

With Jason Kidd as the new head coach, he could also help in Smith’s development, as he and Rick Carlisle did not mesh well during his first tenure with the team.
