Oklahoma City Thunder

Prior to joining the Lakers, Dennis Schroder spent two seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder, so why not return? After waiving Kemba Walker, the Thunder still have a ton of cap space and could potentially look to bring back Schroder on a one-year contract.

Why would they do this? Well, GM Sam Presti loves to move players around for draft picks and they could absolutely look to do so with Schroder at the trade deadline during the 2021-22 season. He would not be a part of their long-term plans whatsoever and he is an experienced guard who could provide some mentoring for guys like Theo Maledon, Ty Jerome and rookie Josh Giddey.

For a one-year, $10M-$12M deal, the Thunder would be getting an experienced guard who could help lead a young core and potentially play well enough that he gains interest from playoff-contending teams during next season.

Out of every single scenario left for Dennis Schroder, this is probably the one that makes the most sense for him and the organization. Schroder is not going to get the deal he wants anymore and his options are very limited, so why not go to OKC and get the most money you can for the 2021-22 season.

For the Thunder, they would be getting a guy they already know a lot about and know that he can help them out during the season. Plus, like we mentioned, he could wind up being a potential trade asset for the Thunder once again, which would be their ultimate end-goal by signing him.

Coming back to OKC may be the only choice Dennis Schroder has at this point and in my mind, this is the scenario that would make the most sense.
