Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: F/C Thaddeus Young
San Antonio Spurs Receive: G Jarrett Culver, MIN 2022 2nd Round Pick, MIN 2025 2nd Round Pick

The Spurs likely will not get a first-round pick in exchange for Thaddeus Young, which is why two second-round picks and a young talent like Jarrett Culver could get the job done. Culver was drafted 6th overall by the Phoenix Suns in 2019 and was traded to Minnesota on draft night for Cameron Johnson (11th pick) and Dario Saric.

In his first two seasons in the league for the Timberwolves, Culver has been very underwhelming not just because of his limited minutes in Minnesota’s rotations, but because he has been injured. Jarrett Culver only played in 34 games this past season due to an ankle injury, which is the main reason why he has not been able to play and showcase his abilities.

Coming out of Texas Tech in 2019, Jarrett Culver was being classified as a versatile wing with above-average potential to be a two-way guy at the shooting guard position. His length and close to 6’10” wingspan is what made teams interested in him and is why the Spurs should be interested in him. He’s become an underrated name to watch in trade rumors as the NBA offseason progresses.

Rebuilding teams can never have too many talented, young guys with potential on their roster, regardless of position, and Jarrett Culver is exactly that kind of player. With a new team in a new situation, Culver may be able to finally live up to the hype of being a former 6th overall selection.

For Minnesota, this is a team that is just looking to add talent to their roster to try and win games now in hopes of maybe sneaking into the play-in tournament, which is why Thad Young makes sense for them. They do not have any cap space to make any moves in free agency, which is why acquiring Young in a trade with the Spurs is the only way for them to add a valuable asset to their roster.

If the Spurs want to move the older guys they received from Chicago in the DeRozan sign-and-trade, then Minnesota should definitely be interested. The question that remains though is if San Antonio would be getting enough value in return for this trade to make sense.
