Does this trade make sense for the Toronto Raptors?

The Raptors have to move Goran Dragic in this sign-and-trade involving Kyle Lowry because they cannot bring in his $19.4M contract. Well, technically they can, but they really do not want to since they are paying Gary Trent Jr. on a new contract and will look to allocate their cap space elsewhere.

Who knows what direction the Toronto Raptors go from here, but not having Kyle Lowry on their roster ushers in a new era of Raptors basketball. This is now Fred VanVleet’s and Pascal Siakam’s team and it seems like Toronto is going to look to build with these two guys being their focal points.

With other young talents in OG Anunoby, Chris Boucher, first-round selection Scottie Barnes and last year’s first-round pick Malachi Flynn, the Raptors are definitely well ahead of other teams who could be going through some kind of a rebuild, so they could look to be aggressive over the next few years in the open market.

Goran Dragic just does not fit in with the Raptors game plan for the 2021-22 season, which is why they will look to move him as an extension of their Miami Heat trade. Whether they buyout Dragic or trade him remains a question, but adding Dwight Powell and Trey Burke in a trade with the Mavericks is not a bad idea.

Burke is an experienced guard who has proven that he can score with the ball in his hands and Powell is a big-bodied center that could help aid them on the rebounding side of things. Other than taking on contracts over the span of the next two years, this would be a win in terms of adding more production to their roster.
