Sacramento Kings

The Hornets and Raptors will both be pursuing Richaun Holmes in free agency, but the Sacramento Kings should really make a big push to re-sign their big man. For years now, the Kings have had some really strong players on their roster with bright futures, but they would let these players go via a trade or in free agency time and time again.

They cannot afford to make this same mistake with Richaun Holmes, otherwise they will be looking at 18, possibly 19 straight years without making the playoffs. Holmes is not a “franchise-altering” center by any means, but he provides stability and a sense of reliability on Sacramento’s roster.

They know what they are going to get night-in and night-out from a guy like Richaun Holmes, which is more than can be said about 10+ other guys on their roster from this past season! While teams have transitioned into looking for more agile and versatile centers, having a big “bruiser-like” center like Holmes who can finish anywhere in the paint is extremely valuable to a team like the Kings.

De’Aaron Fox is a great player, but he cannot carry this team to the playoffs alone, especially in the Western Conference. If Sacramento is going to have any chance of ending their long playoff drought, they are going to have to spend the money to keep a guy like Richaun Holmes.

On both ends of the court, he is one of their only reliable players and if they were to let him go, their frontcourt would be a mess. They have no young centers to fall back on and Marvin Bagley III is entering the final year of his contract, putting him in the same position as Holmes next offseason!

The Kings have let reliable players walk before and it has been their downfall over the years. Making this same mistake with Richaun Holmes and not bringing him back in free agency will result in a major void forming in their frontcourt that they will not be able to replace for some time.
