Toronto Raptors

The Raptors are coming off their worst season in several years and this is in large part because of how much of a mess their frontcourt was. Pascal Siakam and Chris Boucher were the only steady contributors for Toronto’s frontcourt all season long and Khem Birch also provided stability near the end of the year.

This team desperately needs a center, which is why they could look to target Richaun Holmes in free agency. The Raptors have also been involved in rumors over the last week or so about potentially trading up one spot in the draft with the Cavaliers to select Evan Mobley, but this seems like a long-shot at this point in time.

Toronto has about $9M in cap space and they can free up some more money to be able to sign Richaun Holmes outright, but they will be bringing themselves dangerously close to the hard cap for next season. Kyle Lowry and Gary Trent Jr. also being free agents does not help as they may have to be willing to part ways with at least Lowry in order to bring in Holmes on a big, long-term contract.

Rodney Hood, Paul Watson, De’Andre Bembry, Freddie Gillespie, Yuta Watanabe, Chris Boucher and Aron Baynes all have non-guaranteed contracts for next season and in total, these contracts amass to about $32.18M in total salaries, so the Raptors to have the ability to free up  a lot of money in order to go after a guy like Holmes in free agency.

With Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka no longer being on the roster, the Raptors options at the center position are very limited, which is why bringing in a guy like Richaun Holmes could solve a lot of their problems. He can rebound and score around the rim, which is exactly the kind of big man Toronto was missing this past season.
