Does this move make sense for the Miami Heat?

Bringing in Kyle Lowry is the best move the Miami Heat can make this offseason and it may not be the only one either. They would not have much cap space or ability to move around salaries if they were to bring in Lowry, but Miami does have interest in reuniting him with his former Toronto Raptors’ teammate in DeMar DeRozan in South Beach.

Having Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan would definitely push the Miami Heat into the conversation for having the best team in the Eastern Conference, but there would be a lot of questions salary-wise here. Lowry is going to get between $25-30M this offseason and with Butler and Adebayo making a combined $64.1M, plus the fact that they would be hard-capped from this sign-and-trade, there is really not much the Heat could do in order to bring in DeRozan unless he is willing to sign for nothing.

This is definitely a side thought that is in-play for the Heat, but their number one goal is getting Kyle Lowry. Everything else will fall into line after, but having a trio of Butler, Adebayo and Lowry instantly makes the Miami Heat one of the top four teams in the Eastern Conference, especially since they would have the ability to bring back restricted free agent Duncan Robinson as well.

The Heat have been preparing to make a big move in the offseason and it seems they are knocking on the door to acquiring Kyle Lowry. Bringing back Goran Dragic on his team option would not make sense for Miami unless they were going to include him in a sign-and-trade deal for the All-Star point guard, which is why there is likely a deal to be had here.

It will definitely be interesting to see what other moves the Heat make, especially since this sign-and-trade would leave them with a total of six guys with contracts for the 2021-22 season. One move we do know that they will definitely look to make though is to bring back player-coach Udonis Haslem for his 19th season with the Miami Heat.
