Jarrett Allen Surprises With Dallas
The Cleveland Cavaliers landed Jarrett Allen in the four-team blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets, Indiana Pacers and Houston Rockets that landed James Harden in Brooklyn.
Upon the completion of that deal, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that the Cavaliers would re-sign Jarrett Allen as their center of the future. It made sense, as Allen is already an elite rebounder and rim protector at only 23-years old. However, their plans may have changed during the 2021 NBA Draft.
The Cavaliers landed the No. 3 overall pick and used that selection on USC center Evan Mobley. Mobley is an elite prospect on both ends of the court and could be the new man in the middle. A team will take advantage of the situation and sign Allen to a monster offer sheet. That team will be the Dallas Mavericks.
Dallas needs to get better on the defensive side of the ball. Their defensive rating has gotten worse for six seasons running, a streak that needs to be snapped. Allen would provide the team with a legitimate anchor that is on the same timeline as Luka Doncic.

Allen’s presence would also allow the Mavericks to use Kristaps Porzingis at power forward, which he prefers, full time. Getting Porzingis back on track, if they are unable to find a team to trade for him, is the only way for Dallas to reach their potential.
