This Heat-Sixers trade is centered on Ben Simmons to Miami

Does this trade make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers?

If it is true that the Philadelphia 76ers want a “king’s ransom” for Ben Simmons, then why would they trade him to Miami? They do not have anything that is close to this kind of value for Ben Simmons and the 76ers would probably laugh at an offer of Dragic, Herro and draft picks.

Gaining future draft picks is great for any team in the league, but the 76ers are contending for a championship now, so there is no reason for them to add draft picks from 2024 on. Dragic and Herro could definitely be role players on a championship-caliber team in Philadelphia, but not at the expense of an All-NBA, All-Star talent like Ben Simmons.

Seeing as they have not yet found a trade offer they have liked for Simmons, it seems very realistic that the 76ers will wind up keeping him unless they come down on their asking price. They want a similar trade package that the Pelicans got for Anthony Davis from the Lakers and that is simply not going to happen.

None of the other 29 teams in the league are going to give up all of their assets they own for Ben Simmons, who is a liability on the offensive-end of the floor and is not the best “win-now” player available in trade talks.

There are plenty of teams around the league who would love the idea of adding Ben Simmons, but to think they will get anything more than one or two key talents and some draft picks for him is absurd. He has potential to be one of the better players in the league, but Simmons is not one of the best players in the league right now, which is why he will not receive the same value the Sixers put on him.
