Does this trade make sense for the Sacramento Kings?

If Marvin Bagley III wants out of Sacramento, the Kings would be smart to trade him for value now before he is worth nothing either at the trade deadline or next offseason. Trading him for a first-round pick in this year’s draft is definitely beneficial to Sacramento, especially since their roster is very underwhelming overall.

Outside of their starting rotation, the Kings really do not have much talent on their roster and their starting rotation is likely going to change this offseason anyways. Bagley’s future is definitely in question, Richaun Holmes is an unrestricted free agent this offseason who will be highly pursued by other teams and both Buddy Hield and Harrison Barnes are available on the trade block.

Adding two young talents with the 9th overall pick and potentially the 18th overall pick, plus two second-round picks, gives the Kings more young talent to build with and try to flip their fortunes around. This is a team that has not made the playoffs since 2006 and are the laughing stock of the NBA, which is why they need to find ways to better themselves moving forward.

Leveraging some of their current assets in Bagley, Hield and others now could definitely prove beneficial for the Kings moving forward. They just are not in a position to win games now and make the playoffs with their current roster, which is why they need to start over once again and try to build something special around De’Aaron Fox.

Trading Bagley definitely gives them draft picks of value immediately in this year’s draft, which is why this could be a smart move for them. Maybe they can get more value for him moving forward, but the draft is coming up quickly and the Kings may have to make a rash decision on their young forward’s future.
