Does this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
The Atlanta Hawks made a strong effort by pulling off a playoff run that ended in the Eastern Conference Finals. Standing pat and being satisfied with that result is something the team should avoid doing. If a star player became available via trade like Bradley Beal, they should make an aggressive push to get a deal done.
Keep in mind, if the Brooklyn Nets manage to stay healthy for a full playoff run, or at least toward the final stages of it, it will require a significant amount of offensive firepower for any team to keep up. Right now, the Hawks do not have that and progression from their wings will not be enough.
Trae Young can provide a lot of scoring punch as the top option but there just isn’t another dynamic threat outside of him. Bogdan Bogdanovic and Danilo Gallinari were helpful additions last offseason. However, neither player is close to a legitimate perimeter co-star.
The Hawks have managed to accumulate a variety of intriguing recent draft selections throughout the years. However, the veteran acquisitions they have made have created overlap. Perhaps no greater example than Clint Capela playing ahead of Onyeka Okongwu.

While De’Andre Hunter would fill an important role no matter what, he’s widely viewed as the wing with the most potential and would need to be included in a potential trade package. The Hawks would still have Cem Reddish to develop long-term.
