Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

The New York Knicks have a lot of connections to Kentucky, as their roster and coaching staff are littered with people who came from the university. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is another former Wildcat that the Knicks would love to get their hands on.

It was mentioned during The Hoop Collective Podcast with Brian Windhorst that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander could be put on the trade market soon. If that happens, the Knicks will undoubtedly jump into the fray.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander just turned 23-years old in July and fits the timeline of the Knicks. Despite already having three years of NBA experience, he is younger than the Knicks’ 2020 lottery pick, Obi Toppin.

SGA would fulfill the Knicks’ search for a point guard, as he came into his own during the 2020-21 season as the unquestioned leader of the Oklahoma City Thunder. He averaged 23.7 points on a tidy .508/.418/.808 shooting slash line despite being the main focus of opposing defenses and the only player they had to worry about on some nights.

He also averaged 5.9 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game. Standing 6’6”, he would give Tom Thibodeau another versatile weapon to use defensively. That size would also not deter the team from adding another point guard to the mix, as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander can easily slide over to the shooting guard spot with Barrett playing more on the wing.
