Nah’Shon “Bones” Hyland – Guard – VCU

Coming out of VCU, not many people know about Nah’Shon “Bones” Hyland, but you better get familiar with the name now because this kid is going to have a special NBA career. Hyland was one of the top performers at this year’s NBA Draft Combine and was one of my favorite prospects to watch during the first day of scrimmages.

He ended up being one of my “biggest winners” from the combine and in one scrimmage, “Bones” had 17 points on 7-11 shooting (3-5 from deep), 6 rebounds and 4 assists. His dazzling performance in this one scrimmage was enough for him to sit out the second day and he drew the attention of a lot of scouts at the combine.

When you watch Nah’Shon Hyland play, the first thing that sticks out is his mindset to score everytime he has the ball. Being the lengthy, athletic and talented combo-guard that he is, Hyland is not only able to beat his opponents off of the dribble, but he is also able to score from beyond-the-arc time and time again.

At VCU this past season, Hyland shot 37.1% from three-point range and went 69-186 from deep in 24 games. He is not afraid to shoot as soon as he crosses half-court and he forces a lot of teams to respect his gifted shooting abilities. As a result, “Bones” Hyland is able to take advantage of defenders that guard him closely, driving past them in the blink of an eye.

At the next level in the NBA, Hyland will likely be able to continue playing with or without the ball in his hands as a result of his shooting abilities. Right now, I have him as an end of the first-round type of prospect, but sources have told NBA Analysis Network that he could wind up going as high as 20th to the Atlanta Hawks, who need a reliable, solid guard behind Trae Young.

Looking back at this draft class a few years from now, we could be asking ourselves why Nah’Shon Hyland did not go higher in the draft. He is absolutely going to be a successful NBA player and will likely be so for a long time to come!
