Phoenix Suns are a very special team that are here to stay

Every championship series has a winning team and losing team and for the Phoenix Suns, they unfortunately came out on the wrong side of history. The Suns may have lost the NBA Finals in heartbreaking fashion, seeing as they led this series 2-0 after the first two games, but this was a team many considered to be a fringe playoff team during the 2020-21 season.

From the moment they finished 8-0 in the NBA Bubble last year and missed the playoffs, we knew something was going to be special about this Phoenix Suns organization and Chris Paul not only got the most out of his team, but head coach Monty Williams was spectacular in his his second season as the head coach of the Suns.

Not enough good things can be said about Williams and his journey as a coach in this league. The job he has done with this Phoenix Suns franchise in just his second season as their head coach is quite remarkable and given how great of a coach he is and how young his team is, this Suns team is not going anywhere anytime soon!

Chris Paul is 36-years-old and Jae Crowder is 31-years-old, but the rest of this Phoenix Suns roster is fairly young. In fact, Chris Paul, Jae Crowder, Cameron Payne and Torrey Craig were the only key guys on this roster who had prior playoff experience.

Devin Booker, DeAndre Ayton, Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson all made their first playoff appearances this year and to get to the NBA Finals the first time they were playing in the postseason is quite remarkable. This team knew they could be good with the addition of Chris Paul, but at the beginning of the year, I highly doubt they thought they would be playing in the NBA Finals!

The journey the Suns have made over the course of this season, winning 51 games during the regular season and making it past the Lakers, Nuggets and Clippers en route to the NBA Finals is monumental in Phoenix Suns history and this is just the beginning of their journey.

Many people are writing off the Suns already and saying this was their best chance to win a title, but that is simply not the case. The Western Conference is full of highly talented teams and injuries definitely played a role in determining playoff series winners, but at the end of the day, this young Phoenix team prevailed and had to overcome a ton of challenges thrown their way.

Plenty of guys missed time during the regular season and both Booker and Paul had to deal with various injuries in the postseason, so we really should not sell this team short. They may not have won a championship this year, but they will have the chance to contend for a championship over the next several years, especially if they continue to build on their success from this season.
