Does this trade make sense for the Chicago Bulls?
When the Chicago Bulls brought Billy Donovan in to be the head coach, it showed that the front office was interested in winning right away. This could be the reason they kept both Zach LaVine and Lauri Markkanen in town at the trade deadline. Once Vucevic was added, the plan was clear.
The Bulls believe they can contend in a Eastern Conference that is very top-heavy. There was a lot of bunch up at the bottom of the standings and the Bulls could look to make a move toward the postseason.
Ball is a point guard that could help them get there. If he is put in the right situation, he could thrive. The Bulls seem like a strong situation because Ball would not have to be the focal point of the office.
By outright acquiring Lonzo Ball in a sign-and-trade scenario, the Bulls would still have the opportunity to facilitate a separate deal sending Lauri Markkanen elsewhere. This would be a viable plan considering Markkanen, like Ball, is also a restricted free agent.
