#4 Dallas Mavericks

Nerlens Noel played for the Mavericks during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, but never really held a solidified role with them. Now, with Dallas needing to sort things out at the center position, they could look to bring back Noel this offseason.

According to SNY’s Ian Begley, the Mavericks are interested in possibly pursuing Nerlens Noel this offseason and this move would make sense for them. The future of Porzingis is a bug unknown at this point, Willie Cauley-Stein has a team option for the 2021-22 season and Boban Marjanovic is an unrestricted free agent. Not to mention, Dwight Powell is under contract, but his future in Dallas is also uncertain.

The Mavericks could be looking to upgrade their depth and skill-level at the center position, which is why they could consider bringing back Nerlens Noel in free agency. With Rick Carlisle no longer being the Mavericks’ head coach, they could look to change things up in terms of their frontcourt and add a defensive stopper next to Kristaps Porzingis.

For a small price, signing Nerlens Noel could give the Mavs two shot-blockers on the inside, counting Porzingis, and they could be threats to run pick-and-roll sets with Luka Doncic. Having two big guys, one who can step out on the perimeter and knock down shots and another who can roll to the basket for lobs, would be advantageous to Dallas.

Finding ways to get better defensively seems to be a key for the Mavericks this offseason and adding Noel to their depth chart definitely does so. Dallas will be looking to re-sign Tim Hardaway Jr. in the offseason and possibly bring in another talented player, so they may not have a ton of room to go after Noel if there is a bidding war for him, but he is definitely an option for them to improve their center depth.
