Does this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?

Moving on from Christian Wood does not seem ideal for the Houston Rockets given his value to them in the frontcourt, but overall, this trade would really depend on what the Rockets plan on doing in the draft. If they want to move up and get Cade Cunningham, then making this trade could make sense, but they also seem very high on Jalen Green. 

Keeping the second overall pick and drafting Jalen Green definitely makes sense for the Rockets, but if they want Cade, they are going to have to try and strike a deal with another team with a lottery pick in order to gain the assets the Detroit Pistons would want. 

The Golden State Warriors are definitely a team the Rockets could look to make a deal with in order to acquire a second lottery pick, but if it is going to cost them Christian Wood, then the Rockets really should not pursue this trade. 

Christian Wood was one of their main focal points and bright spots during the 2020-21 season and getting rid of him would not be a good move for a franchise that is rebuilding. Houston needs all of the young talents they can egt right now and while Cade Cunningham would be a great addition, along with James Wiseman, Wood has proven to be a game-changer for Houston.

If they really do want Cunningham, then this is an avenue that the Rockets could explore, but this is a trade that could also ruin them for the next several years. This would be a tough decision for the Rockets to make if the Pistons say that they would be interested in one of the Warriors’ picks, but ultimately, I would not expect Wood to be discussed in any trades this offseason for the Rockets.
