Detroit Pistons Receive: G Eric Gordon, HOU 2021 1st Round Pick (Pick #2), POR 2021 1st Round Pick (Pick #23), MIL 2021 1st Round Pick (Pick #24)
Houston Rockets Receive: G Rodney McGruder, DET 2021 1st Round Pick (Pick #1)

The Houston Rockets are one of several teams interested in trading for the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft and they are probably the most well suited team to potentially move up one spot. Houston has the 2nd pick in this year’s draft and after trading James Harden in January, they are also in the midst of a rebuild process.

However, the Rockets have a ton of young, talented players in Christian Wood, Jae’Sean Tate, Kevin Porter Jr. and Kenyon Martin Jr. All four of these guys will be building blocks for them moving forward, which is why the Rockets are highly interested in Cade Cunningham.

John Wall is not the future of the Rockets at the point guard position and when his contract is up, Houston will most likely not look to keep him around, that is unless they trade him before his contract is up!

Finding a solidified point guard to run things next to Porter Jr. moving forward is a goal for this organization, which is why they want Cade Cunningham so much.

For Detroit, if they were to trade out of the first overall pick, the best thing they could do for themselves is to strike a deal with the Rockets so they could acquire the second overall pick and get the guy they have had their eyes on for a while now — Jalen Green.

Not only could they acquire the 2nd overall pick in this deal, but they could also potentially grab the Rockets’ two late first-round picks at No. 23 and No. 24 since the first overall pick is very valuable. Not to mention, they could also get Eric Gordon, an experienced and veteran guard who Houston is more than willing to trade for salary relief this offseason.

Detroit does not have much cap space and taking on Gordon’s contract is not really favorable, but he is a guy who can contribute for them now and help them grow out of their rebuild process. He’s also a name that has circulated around the NBA in trade rumors as of late.

At the expense of Rodney McGruder and the first overall pick, the Pistons could grab Eric Gordon, Jalen Green and two other first-round prospects, giving them everything they need to take the next step during the 2021-22 season.
