A possible Collin Sexton deal on the horizon?
The Cleveland Cavaliers are a team that has been looking for answers ever since LeBron James left in 2018, and they will continue doing so this offseason, which could lead to them trading away Collin Sexton. While he is arguably their best player, The Cavaliers have a financial problem on their hands right now and may not be able to afford signing Sexton to a new long-term deal.
As a result, Collin Sexton could be available in trade talks, which is why the Miami Heat could get involved in these NBA trade rumors. With Dragic having his $19.4M team option, Kendrick Nunn being a restricted free agent and Victor Oladipo being an unrestricted free agent, as well as being out for at least the first-half of the 2021-22 season with a quad injury, the Heat have a need for a new point guard, which is why Sexton could be on their radar.
Miami needs another pure scorer next to Jimmy Butler, which is why Collin Sexton could fit in so well in South Beach. In three seasons with the Cavaliers, Sexton has averaged 20.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and has shot 45.8% from the floor, 38.5% from three-point range.
What the Heat would trade in return for Sexton remains a big question, but this could be a means for the Cavaliers to finally unload Kevin Love. He is owed $60.2M over the next two seasons, something Cleveland does not want to pay, which is why they could look to include Kevin Love in any trade packages involving Sexton.

Taking on Love’s contract is definitely not ideal for the Heat given that he is under contract through the 2022-23 season, but having a team of Sexton, Herro, Butler, Love and Adebayo is definitely a starting unit that could contend in the East. Are they good enough to win a championship though?
Collin Sexton being available in trade talks is definitely surprising news coming out of Cleveland this offseason, but as it pertains to the Miami Heat, their focus is on other things right now. They could definitely entertain the idea of adding Sexton to replace Kendrick Nunn, but if this trade comes with the baggage of taking on Love’s contract, this may be something the Heat are unwilling to do at this time.
