Does this trade make sense for the Memphis Grizzlies?

Finding ways to add more talent to their roster is a must for the Grizzlies, especially given how crowded the Western Conference is with solid, competitive teams, but trading for Ingram probably is not a smart move for them.

He is not only a very ball-dependent player, which would not suit well next to Ja Morant, but Ingram’s value is at an all-time high right now. Memphis would have to be prepared to give up a ton of assets to acquire him, which may not make much sense.

The Grizzlies have done an excellent job in terms of drafting young talents to build for the future, so why would they throw all of this away just to get Brandon Ingram? Not that Ingram is not a great young talent himself, but he is not a franchise-altering player in terms of potential success he could bring with him to Memphis.

They are definitely a better team talent-wise with him on their roster, but fit and scheme-wise, the Grizzlies are much better off holding onto the guys they have now, especially Dillon Brooks.

The 25-year-old wing out of Oregon really stepped up and took on a much bigger role for the Grizzlies this season and played fantastic in Memphis’ five playoff games against Utah this year.

Dillon Brooks is only going to get better and with a core of him, Morant, Jackson Jr. and the other young talents on this roster, Memphis is going to be a tough team in the Western Conference for many years to come.

Their time is coming, but the best thing this front-office can do this offseason is sit back and be patient. Rushing things will only lead to disaster for the Memphis Grizzlies, which is why they should not trade for Brandon Ingram. More opportunities will come their way to add more talent to their roster at a smaller asking price.
