Gordon Hayward’s contract isn’t a team-friendly one

Whomever the Golden State Warriors elect to trade for, making sure they can be a long-term fixture in the organization should be a priority.

As for Gordon Hayward, his contract isn’t exactly one that teams are clamoring to absorb in the future. While Hayward is under contract through the 2023-24 season, he’s owed a total of $91.4 million over the next three years.

Once again, Golden State can likely get a much better player than Hayward if they are willing to move some pieces around on their roster.

So paying Hayward $90+ million in the next three years seems like a dangerous tight rope to be walking if you’re the Warriors. Let’s say he doesn’t induce the production that the franchise anticipated.

Then, trading him to another team could become a hassle, putting the team in an awful spot with a contract that no team is going to want. Golden State should avoid acquiring Hayward partly due to his unfavorable contract.
