Houston Rockets Receive: G Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Oklahoma City Thunder Receive: No. 2 Pick
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has proven to be a franchise-level point guard in Oklahoma City. He was viewed as the piece to build around but the price tag might not be something that the Thunder want to deal with just yet. Of course, he’s worth the price, but does the team want to hit the hard reset button?
This is where the Thunder could take advantage of the value surrounding their star. Of course, Gilgeous-Alexander will be just 23-years-old later this year, so it’s not a need to trade him. However, imagine having three top 10 picks on all on rookie contracts?
The Rockets also have assets they would be able to send back. Is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander worth the second pick in the 2021 NBA Draft? That is something that Houston will have to figure out during the offseason.
There would need to be determination made about whether the upside of Jalen Green, Evan Mobley, or Jalen Suggs is the better route to go or if Gilgeous-Alexander on his next contract is the better option.
