Carmelo Anthony’s attitude has changed
When talks first began that the Knicks could trade Carmelo Anthony, he was adamant that he wouldn’t come off the bench. That was used as a reason to lambast him in the media, portraying him as an aging, stubborn player that wouldn’t change his role for the good of the team.
While he started all 58 games he played with the Trail Blazers during the 2019-20 season, he came off the bench in all but three games during the 2020-21 season.
That acceptance of a new role would make him a good fit for the Knicks. There isn’t a spot in the starting lineup for him, as Julius Randle has locked down that role as the starting power forward.
The Knicks could also need some scoring punch on their second unit. If they are unable to retain Derrick Rose and/or Alec Burks, New York would need to add someone to help buoy the second unit alongside surprising rookie Immanuel Quickley.
