Dallas Mavericks

Who doesn’t like a homecoming? A return to Dallas would essentially be that for Marcus Smart, who grew up in Flower Mound, Texas, less than 30 miles away from Dallas. It would also be a great basketball move for the Mavericks.

Every move the Mavericks make, they need to think, ‘how does this fit alongside Luka Doncic’? Smart would be a perfect fit alongside him because he doesn’t need the ball in his hands to impact winning a game.

The Mavericks have plenty of firepower offensively, led by Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis and if they can re-sign Tim Hardaway Jr. or land Norman Powell in NBA free agency.

Smart could slide right into the Mavericks’ starting lineup as their defensive ace. Smart would even fit with the second unit alongside Jalen Brunson for a hard-nosed backcourt combo.

Allowing the offensive-minded players to not have to chase the opposing team’s best offensive players on defense would be the best thing Smart brings to Dallas. He would help everyone fall into their roles and gives new head coach Jason Kidd a ton of flexibility when it comes to lineup choices.
