Does this trade make sense for the New York Knicks?
This trade makes a ton of sense for the New York Knicks. Just take a look at who has been the starting point guard for the team on opening night the last 12 seasons, courtesy of Tommy Beer. Raymond Felton and Derrick Rose are the only players that can be argued that they are better than Brunson at this point.
The Knicks have to upgrade the starting point guard spot this offseason and Brunson would accomplish that. While he is not a headline-grabbing name, he would represent a sizeable upgrade and improve the team immensely.
Brunson averaged an efficient 12.6 points per game last season, knocking down 52.3 percent of his shots overall, 40.5 percent from 3-point land and 79.5 percent from the foul line. He also chipped in 3.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists in only 25 minutes per game. His per-36 minute averages of 18.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists certainly sound like a starting-caliber point guard.
The Knicks’ brain trust is also very fond of Jalen and his father, Rick Brunson, who was Leon Rose’s first client. Rose gushed about him and so did head coach Tom Thibodeau.
