Opportunities are far and few between
It is not every day that a player of Damian Lillard’s caliber becomes available. If the Trail Blazers eventually do put him on the trade block, it is an opportunity Pat Riley and company would have to pounce on.
When the opportunity presented itself for the team to land a transcendent start in Shaquille O’Neal, the team struck a deal to give Dywane Wade his much-needed running mate and it resulted in a championship.
The stars aligned for Miami to land LeBron James and Chris Bosh to team up with Wade and they moved heaven and earth to make it happen. Once again, it resulted in championships.
While Lillard may not be the same kind of superstar that O’Neal or LeBron was, he is still in the upper echelon of the league and would push the team closer to being title contenders.

The price would be steep, likely beginning with Tyler Herro, Precious Achiuwa and multiple first-round picks, but Lillard would be worth it for what he could bring the organization.
