Philadelphia 76ers Receive: G Eric Gordon
Houston Rockets Receive: G George Hill (non-guaranteed), F Mike Scott (sign-and-trade) and 2023 second-round pick (most favorable from Atlanta, Brooklyn and Charlotte)
For the Houston Rockets, this deal comes down to one thing; financials. At the stage they are in their rebuild, they have no use for an expensive 32-year old gunner, as they will be giving as many minutes and shot attempts to the young players on their roster that they can handle.
Eric Gordon is owed $37.6 million guaranteed over the next two seasons and has dealt with injuries in recent seasons, which would further knock down the price of a return package.
As virtually the lone veteran left from the D’Antoni era, as James Harden and P.J. Tucker were traded last season, Gordon will be on the move eventually.
Houston has also been a team that doesn’t want to be near the luxury tax. Moving Eric Gordon’s deal and likely saving money on a George Hill buyout would be something ownership likes seeing. Getting a future second-round pick, in addition to the money would save getting out from under Gordon’s deal, should be more than enough for them to be on board.

After spending so much time with the Rockets, Morey should have some relationships built that would make this deal easier to consummate as well.
Would the Philadelphia 76ers be as open to a Eric Gordon trade as the Houston Rockets seemingly would be? Let’s take a look at this deal from their perspective.
