This Pelicans-Timberwolves trade is centered on Brandon Ingram

Does this trade make sense for the Minnesota Timberwolves?

If Karl-Anthony Towns is not moved, it would benefit the Minnesota Timberwolves to add some more pieces around him. This is what they attempted to do in a trade when they acquired D’Angelo Russell from the Golden State Warriors.

At this point, it is obvious that there needs to be more done if they want to have a chance at building a winner. Brandon Ingram has improved each year since entering the league. He has turned into a strong scorer that can get it done at all three levels. Ingram might be the perimeter threat that the Timberwolves need to pair with Towns.

Ingram already has experience playing with other stars and that would come in handy on the offensive end of the floor. He would bring a needed wing scoring boost to a Timberwolves team that has a lot of backcourt talent but doesn’t have a true wing-sized threat at the three spot.

Minnesota has to be aggressive. It is likely that all players, other than Anthony Edwards, are available via a trade in the offseason. Towns and Russell could lead the charge but Beasley would be the name being sent away here. Ingram would be an immediate replacement on the perimeter.

It will be a few years, at least, before the Timberwolves are ready to compete in the West. This is a trade that could speed up the process and make them a team to watch moving forward.
