No matter what the Dallas Mavericks do this offseason, they need to keep one name in mind: Luka Doncic. The Mavericks need to do everything in their power to conduct moves that would put Doncic in a position to succeed.
Also, with Doncic wanting a new contract soon, Dallas better ensure that they are the team giving it to him. With Rick Carlisle and Donnie Nelson out of the picture, Jason Kidd will now be the head coach of the Mavericks.
Giving Kidd a roster that can succeed will be vital for the franchise’s success moving forward.
While finding a new running mate for Doncic by ridding of Kristaps Porzingis should be at the top of the to-do list for the Mavericks, Fred VanVleet would be a solid addition for the Mavericks.

VanVleet could fill the team’s need at point guard and allow Jalen Brunson to operate the second unit off of the bench. Getting VanVleet and a star player this offseason would be a good start in a new era for Mavericks basketball.
