Does this trade make sense for the Orlando Magic?
The Orlando Magic decided to sell at the NBA trade deadline and jumpstart the rebuild. Terrence Ross was kept on the roster but might not fit into the future plans. If this is true, it would benefit the team to send him away in a trade for younger pieces.
Tyler Herro and to a lesser degree, Precious Achiuwa, could be those players. They are slightly proven young players that look like they will have a long future in the league. Taking a gamble of this kind could be quite a logical approach given they also have the No. 5 selection in the 2021 NBA Draft.
Cole Anthony looks like the real deal and Markelle Fultz was coming on a bit before suffering a torn ACL. Orlando already has a few young talents on the roster and there could be more on the horizon. Tyler Herro could slide into the backcourt nicely alongside them.
The Magic did acquire RJ Hampton from the Denver Nuggets in part of the NBA trade deadline scenario that featured Aaron Gordon. He does not have as high of a ceiling as Herro, so the team could involve him in a depth role with the second unit.
