Does this trade make sense for the Los Angeles Lakers?
Malik Beasley was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves last season and played well in 14 games. He came into the 2020-21 season looking to be one of their biggest offensive weapons and that is exactly what happened.
This season, Beasley played just 37 games this season and scored 19.6 points per game while shooting 40% from the three-point line. This is something that could interest the Los Angeles Lakers.
LeBron James has always been interested in having shooters around him since he entered the league. He can still get to the rim at will and it makes sense to have shooters on the perimeter when the defense collapses.
Beasley has shown the ability to be an elite shooter and can take over a game on the offensive end. Los Angeles has been attempting to improve their backcourt over the years and Beasley could be a long-term option. Caldwell-Pope is not that long-term piece for the future.
Beasley would not break the bank and this is a reason the Lakers could pull the trigger on this deal. His strengths would be magnified as he would fill a crucial perimeter scoring role and would elevate the offense in a needed way — further than what Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has managed to do.
