Does this trade make sense for the Miami Heat?
The Miami Heat were looking like a team ready to win now at the beginning of the season. That was not the case as they played their way to a sweep out of the playoffs. Entering the offseason, Pat Riley could have his hands full but there are plenty of options for him to make.
We have seen the Heat linked to many big names throughout the past year. They could decide to go the other way and send away one of their names to rebuild. Butler would give them the biggest return.
In this deal, they would add some more pieces around Bam Adebayo and load up on prospects in the draft. This will not exactly take the Heat out of contention but it would allow them to retool assets.
It’s not really the Heat’s style to ever just tear down the roster but this wouldn’t necessarily be packing it in. Andrew Wiggins is a younger wing option that could thrive in the Heat’s team culture and better aligns with Bam Adebayo’s timeline. Meanwhile, James Wiseman would be another addition to the core.

It will be interesting to see the way the Heat there are plenty of names available and it is likely that Miami will be in on a few of them. With Jimmy Butler in line to receive such a massive contract extension, it’s certainly worth entertaining the idea of capitalizing on his trade value now.
