Does this trade make sense for the New York Knicks?
The Eastern Conference was top heavy this year. The Knicks were part of the second group that had a strong regular season but was not taken seriously as a championship contender. The impact of Thibodeau has happened quicker than expected and now it is important to round out the lineup.
Gilgeous-Alexander would do this at the top of the offense. Derrick Rose played well for the Knicks since being traded midseason but he is not a future piece.
Immanuel Quickley showed potential in his rookie season but not enough to count on him as the franchise point guard moving forward. That is what Gilgeous-Alexander is. He averaged a career high in points while also adding a career high in assists.
In 35 games, Gilgeous-Alexander dished out 5.9 assists per contest. He is a presence that would add to the Knicks. Randle and Barrett overachieved this season but they are not the duo to rely on moving forward. New York needs a primary ball handler that can run pick-and-rolls and attack in isolation.
