Does this trade make sense for the Utah Jazz?
The Utah Jazz have an elite player in Donovan Mitchell leading the way. He has shown that he is a superstar and can get it done on the biggest stage. Now it is time for the Jazz to put the right pieces around him in hopes of winning a championship.
There is already a strong supporting cast in Utah. This is a team that finished with the best record in the league but has not been able to take that next step. Sexton is a guard that can help them improve at the most important position.
The NBA is run by its guard play and a duo of Mitchell and Sexton would be one of the better ones. If Sexton can learn to play without the ball in his hands and defer to Mitchell, the plan would work out great for Utah.
The main motivation for this trade would be to have a replacement for Mike Conley if he were to depart in NBA free agency. While many consider it likely for Conley to be back, he’s at a stage in his career where he could look to make a change to maximize his chance at winning a ring.

The Western Conference is strong and that is not going to change in the upcoming years. Utah will have to make some moves to keep themselves in contention. This is certainly one that would land them an up-and-coming star for the future.
