Does this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?
Brandon Ingram signed a long-term extension to remain in New Orleans. He was supposed to be one of the centerpieces along with Williamson, who has quickly turned into an all-star in the NBA.
It is obvious that Zion Williamson is going to be the future of this team and the Pelicans need to do what they can to keep him around long term.
That clearly means that they have to put the right players around him. New Orleans has had trouble doing so since the Anthony Davis trade. Lonzo Ball could be leaving in free agency while Josh Hart continues to be a decent piece off the bench.
Brandon Ingram was the best return they got in that deal and they could use him to get some more assets. Sabonis would be able to space the floor for Williamson and create a dominant frontcourt.

New Orleans would also get the 13th pick in the draft and the chance to add one of the top prospects in the class. It might not sound like a good plan for a rebuilding team to split up it’s stars, but if Williamson wants to have a solid core around him, trading Ingram might be the way to get it.
