For years, the New York Knicks were looking for anything to go their way in order for them to finally find success again and this NBA season, they struck gold! It had been 7 seasons prior to the start of the 2020-21 season since the Knicks were in the playoffs and they not only made the playoffs this season, they finished as the 4th best team in the Eastern Conference.

Everything went right for this organization this season and it started last offseason with the move to bring in Tom Thibodeau as their head coach. Thibs did an excellent job making the Knicks one of the best defensive teams in the league and as a result, he earned the NBA’s Coach of the Year award.

Not only was Tom Thibodeau great coaching this team, but Julous Randle emerged as a young star in this league. He made his first All-Star appearance of his career this season and also was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player for the 2020-21 season.

With Randle being an All-Star on this team, R.J. Barrett continuing to grow into a young player with All-Star potential and the Knicks having close to $60M in cap space this offseason, New York has a chance to go after some franchise-changing talents, including Karl-Anthony Towns. They will undoubtedly be a key team to watch in NBA trade rumors.

For years now, the Knicks have been linked in NBA trade rumors to be a team that is going to pursue Towns and this offseason is their best opportunity to do so. The Timberwolves’ center grew up a Knicks fan and is from Metuchen, New Jersey so going to the Knicks definitely makes sense, but will the Timberwolves actually look to trade their star center?
